University of Kentucky men’s soccer player Jason Bell has been presentedthe 1999 Arthur Ashe Sports Scholar Award by Black Issues In HigherEducation, the journal announced in this month’s issue.

Bell, a junior from Louisville, Ky., was selected based on his academicachievements and community involvement.

The philosophy major is a Dean’s List member and is involved in severalcampus groups, including UK’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee. He wasalso chosen for the Southeastern Conference Honor Roll and named AcademicAll-Mid-American Conference.

Bell was a spark plug off the bench for the soccer Cats last season,tallying a goal and two assists in 19 games.
