LEXINGTON, Ky – Junior Breck Price extended his hitting streak to nine games and juniorJason Wolfe had four hits as the Kentucky Wildcats beat the Miami RedHawks,13-2, at Cliff Hagan Stadium in Lexington on Tuesday.
Kentucky’s bats came alive in the bottom of the third inning. With twoouts, sophomore Beau Moore singled down the right field line. Junior AndyGreen singled to right field and drove in Moore. Green then stole secondand later scored on Price’s RBI single to center field.
Miami tied the game, 2-2, in the fifth inning. Shortstop Jeremy Ison openedthe inning with a single and catcher Ryan Glass singled to put men on firstand second with no outs. The runners advanced on Kentucky junior NathanKent’s passed ball and scored on center fielder Clark Mace’s single tocenter field.
The Wildcats responded with an 11-run fifth inning that featured sixsingles, two doubles, four walks, and a home run. Freshman Vince Harrisonrecorded his first collegiate hit, a double to left-center, in themonstrous inning for Kentucky. All of UK’s runs were scored with two menout in the inning.
Kent picked up his first win of the season, pitching five innings andrecording six strikeouts. Price drove in a career-high four RBI on theafternoon and played three positions for Kentucky.
UK returns to action this weekend, traveling to Oxford, Miss., to face theOle Miss Rebels in a three-game series.
