ATHENS, Ga. – University of Kentucky men’s tennis players Carlos Drada and Tomas Smid won their opening matches at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Region III Indoor Championships this past weekend.
Drada received a bye in the first round of play. Drada then defeated Tennessee-Chattanooga’s Jesse Koti, 6-3, 6-2, to advance to the third round, where he fell to Conrad Hurger of Mississippi State, 6-3, 6-4. Smid won his first round match, overcoming Boston College’s Javier Miles, 6-2, 6-0. Vanderbilt’s Eddie Coates eked out a victory over Smid in the second round, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (1).
UK’s Edo Bawono also competed in the Championships. Bawono fell to Marcio Petrone of Florida International, 7-6 (5), 6-4, in the first round.
