Freshmen Report: As expected, a total of 24 freshmen, including23 scholarship signees and one walk-on, officially reported to theUniversity of Kentucky campus on Sunday.
The freshmen have orientation activities Sunday and Monday,including physicals and academic and compliance meetings. The firstpractice is Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Nutter Training Center.
Andrus Joins the Wildcats: Kentucky’s new walk-on is ShaneAndrus, a 5-11, 165-pound kicker/punter from Murray, Ky. Andrus was athree-year starter at Murray High School, playing wide receiver anddefensive back in addition to his kicking duties. He averaged 38 yardsper punt as a sophomore, 39 yards as a junior, and 45 yards as a senior.He made four of six field goal attempts as a senior, with a long fieldgoal of 42 yards. Approximately 60 percent of his kickoffs reached theend zone. As a senior, he was named third-team all-state punter by theLouisville Courier-Journal, honorable mention all-state by TheAssociated Press, and first-team All-Western Kentucky Conference as apunter, kicker, and wide receiver.
