Bonner Given Day Off: Kentucky football coach Hal Mumme sent histeam through a two and one-half hour practice Saturday afternoon, beginning at Nutter Training Center and finishing at CommonwealthStadium.

Backup quarterback Mike Scipione worked with the first-teamoffense throughout the practice as Mumme gave starter Dusty Bonner theday off.

“We wanted to rest Dusty’s arm,” Mumme explained. “He made 106throws yesterday (Friday) and about 80 the day before. Just like abaseball pitcher, his arm needs some rest, so we’ve giving him offtoday, Sunday, and Monday. His arm is fine, we’re trying to get him topeak next Saturday. We’ve gotten him about as far as we can get himwithout actually playing.

“We also need to get Mike some more work with the first team incase he should have to play.”

The team will be off on Sunday before returning to the practicefield Monday afternoon. The Wildcats are preparing for the seasonopener Sept. 4 against Louisville.
