LEXINGTON, Kty. – The unused student tickets for theFlorida game have been snapped up eagerly by the public. The game is asellout.
Fans Looking For a Place to Park?: Two public parking areas thatare not being fully utilized during the home games are the VirginiaAvenue parking lot and UK Parking Structure #2, located at the end ofHilltop Avenue.
Each location is approximately 15 minutes walk from CommonwealthStadium. Both parking areas are free for public parking on game day.
“Jerry Claiborne Hall of Fame Weekend” Begins Friday: Theweekend of the Florida game has been designated as the “Jerry ClaiborneHall of Fame Weekend” in honor of the former UK player/assistantcoach/head coach. The weekend is sponsored by Fifth/Third Bank.
Activities begin Friday with a luncheon, golf outing, andreception at Lexington’s Campbell House Inn. An opportunity to seeCollege Football Hall of Fame memorabilia will be available in the”Traveling Road Show,” a bus specially designed to transport some of theHall of Fame’s historical artifacts. The “Traveling Road Show” will beon display Friday at the Campbell House and on Saturday at the “LaunchPad” in the Commonwealth Stadium parking lot alongside University Drive.
Host Communications, which helps the College Football Hall ofFame in its marketing and promotional efforts, has produced 5,000posters featuring UK’s members of the Hall of Fame – Claiborne, BobGain, Babe Parilli, Lou Michaels, and Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant. Thoseposters will be given away at the Hall of Fame display at the “LaunchPad.”
Before the game, representatives of the College Football Hall ofFame will be at stadium gates 4, 9, and 12 to accept donations insupport of the facility, which is located in South Bend, Ind.
Claiborne will be recognized at halftime of the game. Makingthe presentation will be Bob Casciola, President of the NationalFootball Foundation and Hall of Fame, and Dale Creech, President of theNFF’s local chapter. The local chapter, quite fittingly, has beenrenamed the Jerry Claiborne Central/Eastern Kentucky Chapter of theNational Football Foundation. Also in attendance will be Joe Owens, theMidwest Regional Coordinator for the National Football Foundation.Claiborne will be honored again in December at the NFF’s annual dinnerin New York City.
Also in attendance during the Hall of Fame Weekend will be BobGain and Babe Parilli. Michaels cannot attend because of a priorcommitment to his 45th high school reunion. Another Wildcat great whowill be visiting during the weekend is George Blanda, who is a member ofthe Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Thursday Practice Moved to 9 p.m.: The Kentucky football teamwill practice at 9 p.m. Thursday in Commonwealth Stadium instead of thenormal afternoon practice. The Wildcats are practicing under thestadium lights in order to prepare for Saturday night’s game vs.Florida.
