WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of Kentucky junior varsity football team defeatedGeorgetown, 38-25, at Applebee’s Field in Georgetown.
The Cats (2-0) took an early first quarter lead on a Brandon Sanders’ fieldgoal before turnovers and a blocked field goal for a touchdown saw theTigers jump ahead, 14-10, in the second quarter.
UK quarterback Mark Perry entered the game late in the first quarter tospark the Cats offense, throwing 12 consecutive passes, including an88-yard pass to sophomore Gary Hughes. Perry finished the night completing21-of-24 passes for 270 yards and two touchdowns.
UK running back Artose Pinner also charted big numbers, rushing for 142yards, one touchdown and a two-point conversion. Pinner scored thegame-winning touchdown on a 48-yard run late in the fourth quarter afterGeorgetown tied the game on a 96-yard kickoff return.
“I was pleased with how we came back from our mistakes tonight,” UK CoachSonny Dykes said. “Georgetown is a tough team and it was evident why theirvarsity is ranked No.1 in NAIA.”
The junior varsity team will return home on Thursday, Oct. 7 to faceHargrave Military at 7 p.m. in Commonwealth Stadium.
