LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky junior varsity football team won itsthird straight game of the season, defeating Hargrave Military Academy(Chatham, Va.) 59-40 at Commonwealth Stadium.
The Cats (3-0) played a near perfect offensive game, charting636 yards in total offense, including 455 yards in passing and 181 yardson the ground. Hopkinsville native Artose Pinner charted fourtouchdowns, three rushing and one passing for Kentucky, while Louisvillenative Gary Hughes registered two receiving touchdowns of his own.
Quarterbacks Mike Scipione and Mark Perry took turns marchingthe UK offense in the end zone. Scipione completed 14-of-20 passes for279 yards and three touchdowns, while Perry threw 11-of-15 for 176 yardand one touchdown.
“We played extremely well offensively tonight,” UK Coach SonnyDykes said. “We took advantage of what the defense gave us and welimited our turnovers. Tonight was the best we have played yet.”
The Cats trailed only once in the game, late in the firstquarter, before Hughes caught an 84-yard pass from Scipione to take thelead for good. The Tigers (3-3) would attempt to battle back in thefourth, but the UK defense held on for the victory. Sophomore NigelSmith and freshman Adetayo Agboke would lead defensively, charting sevenand six tackles, respectively. The UK defense also added points on theboard after sophomore Adrian Patton returned a Hargrave fumble for a31-yard touchdown.
UK will play host to Campbellsville in its last home game of theseason on Oct. 18 at 5 p.m. in Commonwealth Stadium. Scoring Summary
