LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Kentucky junior Wes Furnish finished theUniversity of Louisville Intercollegiate in third place, two strokes off thelead with a two-round total of 144. Furnish, the day-one leader, followed up acareer-best three-under-par 69 in Monday?s opening round with a three-over-par75 in the final round on Tuesday.
The Cats had a two-round team total of 609 (304-305) which placed themseventh among the 18 competing teams for the two-day tournament held atLouisville?s Persimmon Ridge Golf Club. UK had entered the day in seventh.After beginning the day seven strokes behind day-one leader Morehead State,Notre Dame shot a tournament best round of 292 to supplant MSU for thetournament championship in the final round. Stave Ratay led the way for theIrish with a 71 on Tuesday which landed him in second-place for the tournamentwith a 143 (72-71). The individual title went to Eric Mason of Western Kentuckywho vaulted over Ratay and Furnish after an opening-round 73 by carding afinal-round 69. Mason finished the tournament with a two-under-par 142. Rataywas one-under while Furnish finished the tourney at even-par.
Furnish is one of only two UK golfers to shoot under 70 this season asfreshman Andy Dustman also posted a 69 on Oct. 11.
