Men’s and women’s swimming and diving defeat Louisville Friday.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 22, 1999) — The University of Kentucky swimming and diving team defeated intra-staterival Louisville in the season-opening meet for both teams Friday night atthe Lancaster Aquatic Center.

Freshman Eddie Clement won two events as the UK men went on to defeat theCardinals, 128-92. Clement, a native of Essex, England, captured the200-yard individual medley and the 200 butterfly. He was also a member ofthe Cats’ first-place 400-medley relay.

Freshman diver Clayton Moss won the one-meter and three-meter events,qualifying him for the NCAA “B” Meet.

On the women’s side, the Cats earned a 136-96 win over UL. SophomoreCarolyn Rader picked up two first-place finishes for UK. She scored a winin the 200 individual medley and a convincing victory in the 200 butterfly.

Sarah Fields took top honors in the one-meter and three-meter diving events.

“We are real pleased with the times we swam in the meet,” UK coach GaryConelly said. “There were some really good swims tonight. Some of the guysthat were in their best events really swam better than we thought theywould. Overall, considering the training we are doing, we’re real happywith the swims we had tonight.”

UK returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 6, when the teams travel to facethe Indiana. The annual Wildcat-Hoosier clash is set for 1 p.m. at theCounsilman and Billingsley Center on the IU campus.
