BATON ROUGE, La. – The 13th-ranked University of Kentucky women’s soccerteam captured its 13th straight victory of the season Sunday as the Catspounded host LSU 6-1.
UK (14-2-1, 8-1 SEC) put the pressure on from the beginning of the matchas freshman Elizabeth Ramsey netted her sixth goal of the season just fiveminutes into the game off a Jaime Dellbringge assist.
Forward Annie Gage gave the Cats a 2-0 lead at the 20:30 mark when shescored her 13th goal and 32nd point of the season, breaking former UKstandout Kim LaBelle’s record for goals and points in a season. Ramseyassisted on Gage’s record-breaking goal.
Keri Boyce scored her 10th goal of the year when she netted an eight-yardshot at the 25:02 as UK extended its lead to 3-0.
Freshman forward Christal Mattingly scored the first of her two goals inthe match at the 32:12 mark when she put in a ball that LSU goalkeeperBonnie Otillio knocked down but was unable to corral.
LSU (4-13-1, 2-7) got on the board in the 37th minute when forward LauraPrichard put a header in past UK keeper Beth Wells, cutting the Cats’ leadto 4-1.
Mattingly scored her second goal of the game off an assist from Ramseywhen she fired a 15-yard shot past LSU keeper Bryna Warnock.
Dellbringge closed out the scoring for UK at the 64:13 mark when she fireda header in off a pass from Emily Oetjen as the Cats cruised to a 6-1 victory.
“We played really well out there today,” UK coach Warren Lipka said. “Wewere able to play a lot of our kids and they got some valuable experience.We have two more matches remaining before heading to the SEC Tournament sowe need to finish strong before our second season begins.”
The Cats took a season-high 35 shots compared to six for LSU and had 14corner kicks while the Tigers had only one.
UK returns to action on Friday, Oct. 29, when the Cats play host to theMinnesota Golden Gophers at 7:30 p.m. in the first-round of the SEC/Big 10Challenge at the UK Soccer Complex.
