In Soccer Buzz’s latest top-25 poll released on Tuesday, the University ofKentucky women’s soccer team climbed into the nation’s top 10 at No. 9.

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) is generallyconsidered the official poll in women’s intercollegiate soccer. In thelatest NSCAA top-25 poll released Monday, UK (14-2-1, 8-1) dropped a spotto 14th, despite winning both matches last week to extend its win streak to13 games, the second longest in the nation behind top-ranked Santa Clara’s17 straight wins.

Cats Clinch Third Seed

UK has clinched the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Southeastern ConferenceTournament, Nov. 4-7 in Nashville, Tenn. The Cats will play Georgia(11-5-1, 5-4) in a first-round matchup at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4, atthe Vanderbilt Soccer Complex. If UK defeats UGA, theCats will meet the winner of the Ole Miss-Tennessee game in the firstsemifinal match on Friday, Nov. 5, at 3:30 p.m.

The two teams met earlier this year when the Cats handed the Dawgs a 4-1loss at the UK Soccer Complex on Sept. 26.

New Records

Sophomore forward Annie Gage broke former UK standout Kim LaBelle’s schoolrecords for goals and points in a season in the Cats’ 6-1 victory over LSUon Sunday. Gage has scored 13 goals and has 33 points this season. TheWesterville, Ohio native has taken 58 shots this season, third highest onthe single season shot chart. She needs 10 shots to eclipse KarinSchneider’s mark of 67 in 1992.

Gage is third in the SEC in points this season behind Florida standoutsAbby Wambach and Sarah Yohe.

If the season were to end today, goalkeeper Beth Wells’s 0.83goals-against average would be third best in UK history. Wells’ fiveshutouts are tied for the third most in a season by a UK keeper.

Freshman Elizabeth Ramsey is tied for 12th in the NCAA in assists per game(0.65).

SEC/Big Ten Challenge

UK will close out the 1999 regular season this weekend as the Cats playhost to the SEC/Big Ten Challenge. Alabama, along with Big 10 powerhousesMinnesota and Michigan, will participate in the tournament at the UK SoccerComplex.

On Friday, Oct. 29, UK will face Minnesota at 7:30 p.m. in a rematch ofthe Cats’ 6-0 loss last season to the Golden Gophers in the first-round ofthe NCAA Tournament. Alabama and Michigan will face off at 5 p.m. UK willtake on 19th-ranked Michigan at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31. Sunday alsois Senior Day as Allison Peppers, Brooke Hergesell, Hope Deutschle andDeanna Stayton will be honored before the match.
