DeKALB, Ill. – The University of Kentucky men?s soccer team picked up aconvincing 3-0 win over Western Michigan on Sunday to advance to the final ofthe Mid-American Conference Tournament.

UK?s Giovanni Fernandes opened the scoring for the Cats in the 13thminute, blasting a shot past the Bronco keeper off assists from Jason Bell andRob Frey. The Wildcats struck again before the break when Bell found the netsoff an assist from Chris McAlpine at 23:38.

Kentucky freshman Chris McDaniel closed out the scoring at 49:59 off apass from Ilkka Jantti to push the final margin to 3-0.

UK outshot the Broncos 12-6 and Kentucky keeper Brian O?Leary neededjust two saves to post his eighth shutout of the year as UK upped its record to12-6-1.

With the win, UK will host the MAC Championship next Friday at 7:30p.m.at the UK Soccer Complex against the winner of the Northern Illinois-Marshallsemifinal.

“We were able to come up here and take care of business,” UK Coach IanCollins said. “Now we just have to get ready for the final.”
