CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of Kentucky women’s swimming and divingteam captured a third place finish overall at the 1999 Nike Cup Invitational.
Freshman Lisa Beavers led the Cats on the final day of competition with athird place finish in the finals of the 100-yard freestyle. Beavers posteda time of 52.19, while teammates Jenny Priester, Kelley Miller, and SarahHoppe finished eighth, 12th, and 13th respectively.
Sarah Carter swam her way to a fourth place finish in the 200 backstroke.
Other standout performances on the women’s side included a sixth placefinish by Jen Clifford in the 200 breaststroke and seventh place finish byfreshman Emily Johnston in the 200 butterfly. Emily Buske placed ninthoverall in the 200 butterfly.
In the 400 freestyle relay, the UK women’s relay team comprised ofPriester, Hoppe, Tracy Sullivan, and Beavers finished fourth.
On the men’s side, UK finished sixth overall. Distance freestylespecialist David Kuendig recorded a fifth place finish in the 1,650 freestyle.
Freshman Aaron Cuker placed seventh in the 200 breaststroke, whilefreshman Matt Nilson took home a ninth place finish in the 200 butterfly.
