LEXINGTON, Kty. — University of Kentucky women’s basketball player Laura Meadowshas been named to the Southeastern Conference Good Works Team for 1999.The team highlights a member from each school who gives back to theircommunity.

Meadows, a 6-3 junior forward, is a frequent speaker at variouselementary schools around Kentucky on the importance of academics. Shehas visited Shriners Hospitals for Children to entertain and providemoral boost, participated in a D.A.R.E pep rally and participated as acelebrity grocery bagger to raise money for the American Cancer Society.Meadows also went on a Methodist Mission in the summer to help fix andbuild homes for the needy.

Last season, Meadows was named to the UK’s Athletic Director’s HonorRoll and the SEC Academic Honor Roll with a GPA of 3.202 in psychology.She currently leads the Cats in scoring and rebounding this season,averaging 13.9 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. She has started in allbut one game for the Cats throughout her three-year career.
