LEXINGTON, Kty. – The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team looks toextend its three-game win steak when it travels to Nashville onThursday, Jan. 13 to take on Vanderbilt in Memorial Gym at 8 p.m. ET.The game will be televised live on College Sports Southeast but is notavailable in the Lexington area.
The Wildcats (10-4, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) enterThursday’s game looking for its fourth straight win and third straightconference victory after defeating fifth-ranked Auburn on Thursday andFlorida on Monday. UK also looks to chart its first win over Vanderbiltin Nashville in 14 years. The Cats’ last win in the Music City was onFeb. 5, 1986, 79-70. Last season, Kentucky snapped a nine-game losingstreak to Vanderbilt, winning an emotional battle in Lexington, 70-69.Before that win, UK had not beaten VU since Jan. 20, 1991 (80-63).
“Vanderbilt always has a tough basketball team,” UK CoachBernadette Mattox said. “They are playing very well right now and areleading the conference in field goal percentage. We are going to haveto get after it on defense and keep them off the boards.”
The Commodores are 13-2, 1-0 in the SEC after defeating Ole Misson Sunday, 60-38. They are riding a 12-game win streak and are 7-0 whenplaying in Memorial Gym. The Commodores’ two losses this season came onthe road in late November to nationally-ranked Purdue and Duke.
The Cats return home on Sunday, Jan. 16 versus Arkansas at 3p.m., in the SEC’s Game of the Week. It will be televised live on FoxSports South. Sunday’s game also marks the return of many UK women’sbasketball alumni, including All-American and current WNBA playerValerie Still, as they celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Kentuckywomen’s basketball.
