Crystal Hamilton leads ‘Cats with first place finish in air rifle, second in smallbore.
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (Feb. 6, 2000) — The University ofKentucky rifle team notched a strong 6058-5786victory over Rose Hulman on Saturday, Feb. 5 inTerre Haute, Ind.
Kentucky was led by freshman Crystal Hamilton,who won the air rifle competition with a 388. JuniorMatt Newburn continued to improve upon hissmallbore standings, as he finished first in thecompetition with an 1154.
The Cats posted a 4547 in smallbore, while tallyinga 1511 in the air rifle portion of competition.Hamilton took second-place honors in thesmallbore with an 1145, while junior Taryn Lewisfinished second in the air rifle with a 385.
“The team really worked hard today,” Coach HarryMullins said. “I feel that they worked through someof their problems and are finding their mistakes faster. This will help them inthe future not to give up as many points.”
UK returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 12, when it participates in the firstround of the NCAA tournament in Murray, Ky.
