Senior Wildcat to compete in 35-pound weight toss.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior Matt Kavanagh will represent the University ofKentucky at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships March 10-11,hosted by the University of Arkansas.
Kavanagh earned provisional qualifying marks in the 35-pound weight tosson four occasions this season. His best toss of 65-02.00 came early duringthe indoor campaign at the Wildcat Speed Meet on Dec. 10, 1999. That heavewas the second longest of the season in the Southeastern Conference and15th in the nation, earning him a trip to the NCAA meet.
“He’s real excited about the opportunity,” Assistant Coach John Kennesonsaid. “And so am I. This is his first time going to the IndoorChampionships, after having been an All-American outdoors. He’s had somegood practices and threw over 65 feet three times this season. We feel hehas a good shot at being in the top eight there and earning All-Americahonors.”
Kavanagh will begin competition at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 11, inFayetteville.
