No. 23 Kentucky Opens SEC Play at No. 3 Georgia

Having mostly taken care of business in its non-conference games leading up to this weekend’s Southeastern Conference opening series, No. 23 Kentucky immediately jumps into the deep end of the pool with a trip to No. 3 Georgia that opens Friday night at Foley Field.

At 19-1 the Bulldogs are off to one of their best starts in school history behind an offense that has been punishing overmatched opponents. Georgia ranks in the top six nationally in home runs (2), hits (2), HBP (2), runs (4), walks (4) and on-base percentage (6). It is 18th nationally in scoring and Ryan Zabrowski leads the nation in slugging, is second in home runs and fourth in RBI.

While Kentucky’s offense has been no slouch, pitching is where its bread has been buttered so far, as the Cats (13-2) rank second nationally in earned run average and WHIP. In 10 of the Cats’ 15 games they have held the opponent to two or fewer runs.

The Cats are coming off a 2024 season that saw them win the regular season league championship for just the second time in history and they have won 38 league games the past two seasons.

All three games will be streamed on SECN+ and live audio will be available on the UK Sports Network, UKathletics.com official app and 98.5 FM in Lexington.
