Kavanagh takes ninth in men’s 35-pound weight throw.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (March 11, 2000) — University of Kentucky seniorMatt Kavanagh claimed ninth place in the 35-poundweight throw Saturday at the NCAA Indoor Track andField Championships at the University of Arkansas.

Kavanagh’s toss of 63-10.50 vaulted him over Iowa’sJeremy Allen by 4.25 inches. Though his signatureevent is the hammer, which he throws during theoutdoor season, Kavanagh’s first trip to the NCAAIndoors was a good experience for him and will helphim prepare for the hammer.

The UK track and field team will now focus on theoutdoor season as it prepares to face competition atthe Hurricane Classic in Miami, Fl. The action takesplace on Saturday, March 18, 2000.
