Baton Rouge, La. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team wasdefeated by the LSU Tigers on Tuesday, 6-3, in a pivotal Southeasternmatch-up. The Cats drop to 8-7 on the year and 2-5 in SEC play.
UK was down 4-2 after singles competition and went on to lose two of threedoubles matches to fall to the 31st-ranked Tigers (10-5, 2-4 SEC).
The Wildcats got singles wins from freshman Sarah Witten and sophomoreLauren Rookledge. Witten battled back from a first set loss to take thenext two sets in impressive fashion and post a 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 victory overFernanda Tsucamoto. Rookledge, who came in riding a four game winningstreak, continued her winning ways by downing LSU’s Mandy Rice. Rookledge,who has been on fire for the Cats, extended her streak to five matches withher hard-fought 4-6, 7-6, 6-2 victory.
In doubles competition, UK took one of three matches. The tennis Cats’lone victory came on court two where Brooke Skeen and Leigh Bradwell, thenation’s 46th-ranked team, notched an 8-4 win.
The Cats will be back in action on Wednesday, when they travel to NewOrleans to face the Tulane Green Wave. The match will wrap-up UK’sfour-match road trip and it set to begin at 1 p.m. EST.
