Men’s swimming and diving standouts pick up honorablemention status with solid showing in first day of NCAAs.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (March 23, 2000) — Junior Shaun Zitani andfreshman Clayton Moss finished in the top 16 in theirrespective events to gain honorable mentionAll-American status Thursday night at the 2000 NCAAMen’s Swimming & Diving Championships. Zitani andMoss are the first All-Americans on the men’s teamsince Nat Lewis in 1998 (500 & 1,650 freestyle).

Zitani, a native of Port St. Lucie, Fla., finished tied for12th in the consolation heat of the 50-meter freestyleto earn honorable mention All-American status. Zitanirecorded a time of 22.23. California’s Anthony Ervinbroke the world record with a time of 21.21 to capturethe event.

Moss finished 10th on the 1-meter springboard divingevent to garner honorable mention All-Americanhonors. Moss’ finished with a score of 506.05. MaconWhite finished 26th in the 400 freestyle with a time of3:50.86.

With UK’s strong showing on the first day ofcompetition, the Cats are in 18th place overall with11.5 points.

The second day of competition will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday.
