MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Junior Shaun Zitani and freshman Clayton Mossfinished in the top 16 in their respective events to gain honorable mentionAll-American status Thursday night at the 2000 NCAA Men’s Swimming & DivingChampionships. Zitani and Moss are the first All-Americans on the men’steam since Nat Lewis in 1998 (500 & 1,650 freestyle).

Zitani, a native of Port St. Lucie, Fla., finished tied for 12th in theconsolation heat of the 50-meter freestyle to earn honorable mentionAll-American status. Zitani recorded a time of 22.23. California’s AnthonyErvin broke the world record with a time of 21.21 to capture the event.

Moss finished 10th on the 1-meter springboard diving event to garnerhonorable mention All-American honors. Moss’ finished with a score of 506.05.Macon White finished 26th in the 400 freestyle with a time of 3:50.86.

With UK’s strong showing on the first day of competition, the Cats are in18th place overall with 11.5 points.

The second day of competition will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday.
