BROWN SUMMIT, N.C. – The Lady Kat golf team finished the first round of the Bryan National Collegiate in ninth place with a team score of 316, the lowest of the spring season. Junior Jenny Throgmorton led the team with a score of 5-over-par 77 (39-38), tying her for 25th. Towa Okiyama is currently in 39th place, shooting a 6-over-par 78 in the first round. Also contributing to the Lady Kats score was Rachel Lester, who shot a 79, and Marie Allen and Kristen Pepe, who are currently tied for 61st after shooting matching 82s in the first round. Host Wake Forest leads the team standings, shooting a 295 on the first day, eight strokes ahead of second place New Mexico and Ohio State. Marta Prieto of Wake Forest leads the individuals with an even par-72 after one round. Play continues Saturday morning at 8:30 at the Bryan Park Champions Golf Course.
