MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The 26th-ranked UK women’s tennis team got a victoryover the 53rd-ranked Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders(12-6) on Sunday, 5-3.The Cats (11-8) won three of six singles matches and were on their way tosweeping all three doubles contests before the match was called and UKclaimed the win.
Lauren Rookledge, Amy Trefethen and Sarah Witten all notched singles winsfor the Wildcats. Witten would later team up with Carolina Mayorga to grabthe court 1 doubles victory, 9-7, while the team of Brooke Skeen and LeighBradwell breezed by Tanja Buchheim and Katja Kuehner for an 8-3 win oncourt 2.
“I was really happy with the team’s performance tonight, especially atdoubles,” coach Mark Guilbeau said. “I think that this was the best we haveplayed doubles all year. I think this performance will give us somemomentum going into next weekend.”
UK will be back in action on Saturday, April 8, in Lexington, when the Catswill go head-to-head with the 3rd-ranked Georgia Bulldogs. The match isscheduled to begin at noon at the Boone Tennis Complex on the UK campus.Admission is free.
