
10 Wildcats Qualify for NCAA Indoor Championships
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Per the release from the NCAA Tuesday night, 10 members of Kentucky’s indoor track and field team have qualified for the Indoor National Championships next week in Virginia Beach, Va. on Mar. 14-15.
The women’s qualifiers include Kate Powers placing eighth in weight throw with her UK record-breaking mark of 22.63m at the Vanderbilt Invitational on Jan. 17, Alexis Glasco in the 60m hurdles with the nation’s 14th-fastest time. The women’s 4x400m relay team, which features Hannah Douglas, Cha’iel Johnson, Oneika McAnnuff, Stacey Onyepunka, A’Laji Bradley and Sharmelle Holmes, also qualified for nationals just last week at the SEC Championships by posting a 3:28.91 time in College Station, the fifth-fastest time in Kentucky history.
SEC Championship medalists Carli Makarawu (200m) and Luke Brown (Triple Jump) will represent the Wildcats men’s team at the NCAA Championships next week. Both Makarawu and Brown earned a silver medal in College Station last week, with both finishes breaking their own UK record. Makarawu currently holds the nation’s second-fastest time in the 200m event with his 20.20 time at the SEC Championships, making him the fastest 200m athlete in program history. Brown also controls the second overall spot among Division I competitors in the triple jump event.
