LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky track and field squads begin competitionThursday, April 27, 2000, at the 106th edition of the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa.

Athletes in four field events and four relays will represent the Cats atthe University of Pennsylvania.

Leading the way for the UK on the track will be the men’s 4×800-meterrelay team, which brought home the title at the Texas Relays on April 6th.The team is comprised of senior Jeff Limpert and freshmen Chad Johnson,Hunter Spencer and Thomas Morgan. Limpert has already provisionallyqualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 800 meters, whileJohnson broke the UK freshman record shaving more than one second off theold mark. The same quartet will also run the distance medley relay.

In the field will be senior All-American and NCAA outdoor provisionalqualifier Matt Kavanagh. Kavanagh is coming off a first-place finish in thehammer throw at Eastern Kentucky University last Friday, and he will try toimprove on his season-best throw of 214-04.00 set at the Sea Ray Relays twoweeks ago. Junior Falana Greenwell will see action in the triple jump, theevent in which she has provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships.

Action begins Thursday at 3:15 p.m. with senior Beth Burkett in thejavelin throw, while junior Shevan Threats and freshman Simidele Adeagbocompete in the long jump at 4 p.m.
