CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Indiana Hoosier men’s tennis team defeated the Kentucky Wildcats, 4-1, in first-round action of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday afternoon. Indiana won the doubles point as well as three singles matches to earn the win.
The Cats (12-15) lone victory came at No. 3 singles where Edo Bawono defeated Gabriel Montilla, 6-1, 6-1. The Hoosiers (17-6) won three singles matches to clinch the win. At No. 1, Milan Rakvica defeated Johan Hesoun, 6-4, 6-4. Gustav Pousette and Jorge Escallon were defeated at the No. 4 and No. 6 positions, respectively.
The Cats lost the doubles matches at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. The duo of Pousette and Johan Grunditz fell to Ian Arons and Gabriel Montilla, 8-6. Indiana’s George McGill and Milan Rakvica defeated Bawono and Hesoun, 8-5.
Johan Hesoun and Carlos Drada will travel to Athens, Ga., May 20-28 to compete in the NCAA Individual Championships.
