ATLANTA (May 19, 2000) — The University of Kentucky track and field squads completed dayone of the Georgia Tech/Reebok Invitational Friday.
Junior Shevan Threats was looking to improve on her NCAA provisional longjump earned at last week’s SEC Outdoor championships. She cleared 20 feetfor the second consecutive meet, but it was not enough to overtake herpersonal-best jump of 20-05.75. Currently ninth in the SEC, that mark is28th nationally.
Senior Beth Burkett claimed eighth place in the javelin throw with a tossof 144-09.00. Burkett took fifth place at the SEC Championships a week agoand is fourth on the SEC top-10 list. Her personal-best throw of 150-05.00is only 2-02.00 shy of the NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
Freshmen Hunter Spencer and Thomas Morgan finished 12th and 13th in the1,500-meter run but will continue Saturday as they focus on the 800-meterrun. Joining them in that event will be senior Jeff Limpert and freshmenChad Johnson. Also seeing action Saturday will be senior Matt Kavanagh(hammer), freshman Janet Crawford (high jump), junior Chris Daniel (polevault) and Threats, junior Falana Greenwell and freshman Simedele Adeagbo(triple jump).
Field events get underway with the hammer throw at 9 a.m., while therunning events begin at 1 p.m.
