ATLANTA – Senior Matt Kavanagh finished fourth in the hammer throw Saturdayat the Georgia Tech/Reebok Invitational track and field meet.
Kavanagh’s throw of 212-09.00 was his third toss of the season over 210feet and well above the minimum NCAA provisional qualifying mark. It alsoimproves on his third-place throw of 207-10.00 at the SoutheasternConference Outdoor Championships last week.
Freshman Janet Crawford took seventh place in the high jump with aseason-best outdoor leap of 5-08.50, which improves on her previous high of5-07.00. With her final jump of her first outdoor season at UK, Crawfordhas progressed to within two inches of the NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
In the women’s triple jump, junior Shevan Threats‘ leap of 41-02.25 gaveher an 11th-place finish. A season-best for Threats, her jump was only twoinches short of giving her a second NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Sheearned one in the long jump with her leap of 20-05.75 at the SECChampionships.
Attempting to improve his NCAA qualifying time in the 800-meter run,senior Jeff Limpert tied for ninth place with a time of 1:48.99. Though notan improvement, it was the fourth time this season he has crossed thefinish line under 1:49.00. Freshman Chad Johnson was close behind in 14thwith a time of 1:49.9h, his third time under 1:50.00 this season. FreshmenHunter Spencer and Thomas Morgan also ran well, as Spencer was 0.01 secondsoff his season-best time and Morgan shaved nearly one second off his seasonbest.
Though the outdoor season has concluded for a majority of the Cats,Kavanagh and Limpert will have one final opportunity to compete. Their topmarks/times this season have earned them spots at the NCAA OutdoorChampionships, May 31-June3, 2000, in Durham, N.C., on the campus of DukeUniversity.
