Wildcats and Orangemen to meet in Nashville on Dec. 29.

The University of Kentucky football team has accepted an invitation to play in the second annual HomePoint.com Music City Bowl in Nashville, Tenn., on Dec. 29. The Wildcats will play the Syracuse Orangemen at 4 p.m. EST (3 p.m. CST) in the new 67,000-seat Adelphia Colisum, home of the NFL’s Tennessee Titans.

“I couldn’t be happier to be going to the HomePoint.com Music City Bowl,” said C. M. Newton, UK Director of Athletics. “I’m proud of our coaches and team. This is a tremendous accomplishment and reward for them.

“Our fans will love going to Nashville. The hospitality is great and they’ll have a lot of fun. I’ve gone through the new stadium and it is the best stadium I’ve seen in terms of fan amenities.”

Kentucky had a 6-5 overall record this season. The Wildcats landed in fourth place in the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference with a 4-4 league mark. Coach Hal Mumme will be taking his team to its second bowl appearance in his three seasons at UK. With the Wildcats having played in the Outback Bowl following the 1998 season, it is Kentucky’s first back-to-back bowl appearances since the 1983 and 1984 teams played in the Hall of Fame Bowl.

“I’m very happy for our players and staff,” Mumme said. “I also appreciate the fans of the Commonwealth who have been so good and supported us throughout the season.

“We have a scrappy team that’s scratched and clawed their way through the season. Being able to cap the year with a bowl trip, especially to a great city like Nashville and to play in a beautiful new stadium, is a tribute to our team.

“It will be a great challenge to play a nationally-recognized program in Syracuse.”

Syracuse posted a 6-5 overall record this season, including a 3-4 mark and fourth place finish in BIG EAST Conference play. The Orangemen are coached by Paul Pasqualoni, who has a record of 74-31-1 in nine seasons at Syracuse. This will be Syracuse’s fifth consecutive bowl trip and the seventh bowl in nine seasons under Coach Pasqualoni.
