Hoopsters looks for first win over the Vols since 1986.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 22, 2000) — The University of Kentuckywomen’s basketball team looks to snap a 16-gamelosing streak to No. 2 Tennessee on Sunday at 2p.m. in Memorial Coliseum when the teams meetfor the 38th time in school history. The game will betelevised live on Comcast Sports Southeast, but willnot be available in Lexington. Check local listingsfor availability.

The last time UK defeated the Lady Vols was onJan. 24, 1986 in Lexington (86-82). UT holds a32-5 record against UK and is 15-3 when playingin Memorial Coliseum. The Lady Vols enterSunday’s game after a 78-51 loss at No. 7 Georgiaon Monday. UT is 13-3 overall and 3-1 in theSoutheastern Conference. The Lady Vols arecurrently tied for second place in the SEC withGeorgia while Kentucky battles with MississippiState for third place.

“Knowing Coach Summitt, her team will come inhere ready to play on Sunday,” UK Coach Bernadette Mattox said. “Wehave to come out with more intensity than we did against LSU and we haveto keep them off the boards. They are a strong team and a good shootingteam. We need all five of our starters to contribute, not just one or two.”

Kentucky boasts three Wildcats averaging in double figures. Leading thepack is junior Laura Meadows and sophomore LaTonya McDole whoaverage 12.3 and 12.1 points per game, respectively. Senior Erica Jacksonfollows with 11.1 ppg while senior Shantia Owens charts marginally missesthe double figure mark with 9.9 ppg.

Four Volunteers average in double digits this season. Sophomore TamikaCatchings leads the way with 15.2 points per game while freshman KaraLawson averages 14.2 ppg. Not far behind in the scoring column is juniorSemeka Randall who averages 14.1 ppg. Sophomore center Michelle Snowalso averages double digits with 12.9 ppg.
