Lexington, KY — After trailing 2-0 in the second half, the University ofKentucky men’s soccer team came back to defeat Mid-American Conferencefoe Eastern Michigan 3-2 in double overtime on Sunday.
UKs first goal came with 10 minutes remaining as senior Matt Wilkersonscored when Sean Mondellis attempt deflected off goalkeeper GeorgeTomasso. The Cats tied the score four minutes later when freshman BrentRainey put in a shot over Tomassos head from near mid-field. Wildcat seniorBilly Dwyer scored on a game-winning three-yard shot off a Mondelli assist atthe 117:56 mark to preserve UKs perfect MAC slate at 4-0. EMUs VesaVertanen opened the scoring for the Eagles 48 seconds into the game, andCurtis Lockwood recorded a goal at the 76:01 mark to put EMU up 2-0.
With the victory, UK (10-3-1, 4-0) surpassed last years win total of nine inonly its fourteenth game of the season. Kentucky outshot the Eagles 26-7 andgarnered 12 corner kicks to EMUs two.
The Wildcats return to action on Sunday, Oct. 19, as they play host toWisconsin-Green Bay at 2 p.m. at the UK Soccer Complex.
