LEXINGTON, Ky. — Evansville scored 11 minutes into sudden-death overtime to claim a 3-2 win over theUniversity of Kentucky women’s soccer team, Sunday, at the UK Soccer Complex.
Evansville’s Jennifer Lembeck scored the game-winner on a 25-yard shot that just went over Kentuckygoalkeeper Beth Wells in the 101st minute. Krissy Meek had the assist on the goal.
With the loss, Kentucky falls to 2-5-1, while Evansville improves to 4-4. “This is obviously a tough loss,”Kentucky head coach Warren Lipka said. “But this was the hardest we’ve played since the Wisconsin game.We had our chances today, but just couldn’t finish them.” The Aces took an early 1-0 lead when SandyJakubczak headed a loose ball into the Kentucky net after a scramble in the box in the 23rd minute of play.However, Kentucky would equalize 16 minutes later when Evansville was called for a hand ball inside theirown penalty box. UK’s Brooke Hergesell converted the penalty kick to tie the score at 1-1 going into halftime.
Kentucky took a 2-1 lead just three minutes into the second half, when Kim LaBelle took a Carrie Staberpass and shot past the Evansville goalkeeper from about 15 yards out. Evansville would tie the game 20minute later, as Dena Ascheman headed a goal past Wells. Regualtion ended 2-2, before Lembeck’s heroicswon the game for Evansville. Kentucky continues its homestand this coming weekend as the Wildcats playhost to Tennessee on Friday, and Georgia on Sunday in a pair of SEC match-ups. Sunday’s Georgia match ispart of a double-header as the Kentucky men take on Belmont immediately following the women’s game.
