LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) – Officials suspended the Kentucky-Louisville game Saturday night after a severe thunderstorm moved into the area.

The game was suspended at 9:16 p.m. EDT with 8:11 left in the third quarter and Kentucky leading 19-14.

Lightning could be seen from the press box as the second half started. Louisville mounted a third-quarter touchdown drive just before play was suspended.

Officials called Kentucky coach Hal Mumme and Louisville coach John L. Smith onto the field after Dave Ragone’s 12-yard touchdown pass to Arnold Jackson and Wade Tydlacka’s extra-point kick. The teams sprinted to the locker rooms after the brief conference ended.

The public address announcer informed fans a severe storm was coming and instructed them to walk to their vehicles.

A light drizzle turned into a blinding downpour as fans scurried to the exits. The Kentucky marching band played the school’s fight song from the stands as fans dashed for cover.
