(Sept. 15, 2000) — The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team posted a 6-0 shutout over the Xavier Musketeers on Friday, Sept. 15, at the UK Soccer Complex. The Wildcats now lead the series 4-3-1. UK is on a four-game winning streak.

“It is nice to see us finally finish opportunities,” UK coach Warren Lipka said. “We are happy with the win and look forward to taking the field on Sunday.”

Kentucky’s (6-1, 1-0 SEC) scoring frenzy got underway late in the first half as Keri Boyce notched her fourth goal of the season off a straight shot to the top right of the goal in the 39th minute. Erin Witchey and Jaime Dellbringge assisted on the goal.

The majority of UK’s goals have come in the second half of the game and this contest was no different. Just after the start of the second half, in the 46th minute, Jen Wilkinson scored her first collegiate goal, heading in the ball off assists by Aimee Brown and Kara McCue. Boyce was back in action with another goal less than a minute after Wilkinson’s, scoring in the 47th minute. She fired from the left top of the box as Wilkinson had back-to-back plays assisting on Boyce’s goal. The next goal for the Cats came in the 84th minute when Annie Gage converted on a direct kick for her third score of the year.

Wilkinson continued the UK onslaught, scoring yet another goal for Kentucky off a Gage assist from five yards out in the 88th minute. With the assist, Gage tied the school record for career assists with 19. Elizabeth Ramsey got in the action, finishing up the scoring for the Wildcats in the 89th minute as she weaved through traffic in front of the goal before booting the ball into the top left corner of the net. Ramsey was assisted by Lauren Russell on her fourth goal of the season.

The UK defense was stingy as well as goalkeeper Beth Wells had to make just one save on five shot attempts to record her third shutout of the season.

Xavier (1-5) saw its best game from its goalkeeper, Megan Veith, as she made eight saves for the night. Liz Singer led the Musketeers in shots with two.

The Cats will next play host to Miami University (Ohio) on Sunday, Sept. 17 at 1:00 p.m. at the UK Soccer Complex.
