Cross country gets early look at site of SEC Championships.
(Sept. 19, 1999) — The University of Kentucky cross country teams competed at theCommodore Classic in Nashville, Tenn., Saturday, Sept. 18. The race tookplace at Percy Warner Park, which will play host to the 1999 SEC CrossCountry Championships on Oct. 30.
The men’s team took home fifth place, with Kevin O’Connor leading theWildcats, finishing in tenth place. The women’s team finished ninth. Theteams from Georgia won both the men’s and women’s competition.O’Connor, who won his first collegiate cross country meet on Sept. 4 at theWoodford Cross Country Trials, ran his first 8,000-meter race in 26:58.77.Hunter Spencer, also a freshman, finished in 13th-place, running the 8K in27:19.08.
Liz Attig led the women’s team, finishing the 5,000-meter run in 19:37.41.The Kentucky Wildcats will compete in their next meet on Oct. 2 in Chicagoat the Lakefront Invitational.
