The University of Kentucky junior varsity football team will play host to Campbellsvilles junior varsity squadin Commonwealth Stadium on Monday, Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. Admission if free and fans can enter at Gates 10 and 11on the south side of the stadium.
The Wildcats (0-1) look to bounce back after falling 42-13 in their season opener at Georgetown College lastweek. Freshman Matt Casey (Shelbyville, Ky.) looked impressive at quarterback, debuting with 25 of 42 passes for302 yards and two touchdowns, both to varsity wide receiver Edgar Gantt (West Hampton, N.J.). The defensiveunit was led by freshman linebacker Justin Haydock (Louisville, Ky.) who notched a game-high 11 tackles,including three quarterback sacks for 25 yards.
“We definitely played hard last week, but it was our first game playing together,” UK Coach Rob Manchester said.”We made first-game mistakes and we are anxious to get back out on there and see what we can do.”
UKs jayvee squad is 2-1 all-time versus Campbellsville, 1-0 versus the Tigers in Lexington. The Cats are 7-1all-time when playing in Commonwealth Stadium and haven’t lost in Lexington since their home-opener in 1997.
