The University of Kentucky rifle team performed well at the Mid-American Conference vs. Ohio Valley Conference Shootout in Cincinnati, Ohioon Sunday, Oct. 22, taking second place overall. Wildcat freshman Bradley Wheeldon took top honors in smallbore with a score of 1180 andfinished second in air rifle with a total of 392.

The Cats posted a 1543 in air rifle, just five points shy of match winner Xavier. The Musketeers also edged out UK in smallbore by a score of4656-4653. UK freshman Lindsey Meagher took third in small bore with a score of 1168, while freshman James Nash was close behind with an1167 for a fourth place finish. Nash also took third in air rifle with a 390.

“I think things went pretty well for us today,” Coach Harry Mullins said. “Even though we finished second overall, we got the numbers that we setout to get as a team. The freshmen performed really well and are off to a great start. If we work on fixing our small mistakes this week in practice,we should perform even better next weekend.”

The Cats return to action on Saturday, Oct. 28, when they travel to Annapolis, Md. to face Navy.
