The University of Kentucky women’s tennis doubles team of Leigh Bradwell and Shannon Stafford breezed into the finals of the 3rd Flight at the June Stewart Invitational on Friday, Oct. 27. The tournament is being played in Nashville, Tenn., on the campus of Vanderbilt University.
Bradwell, a sophomore from Toronto, and Stafford, a sophomore from Gainesville, Fla., quicklydefeated Baylor’s Monica Gonzalez and Alison Bradley 8-1 to advance. In the second round, the Wildcattandem rolled Meghan Skalsky and Jessica Watkins of Marshall to earn a spot in Saturday’s final where theywill meet Northwestern’s Shannon Duffy and Marine Piriou. The 3rd Flight final will be played at 1:30 onSaturday.
“Shannon and Leigh competed with a great deal of energy out there today,” Coach Mark Guilbeau said.”I was very pleased with the positive approach in which they played.”
Stafford also advanced in singles action by defeating Mable Abraham of Georgia State in straight sets,6-2, 6-2. Stafford will move on to the next round of the 2nd Flight singles to take on Leah Jackson ofNorthwestern at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
