(Oct. 30, 2000) — The University of Kentucky cross country squads travel to Alabama for the 2000 Southeastern Conference Cross Country Championships on Monday, October 30, at the Harry Pritchett Golf Course in Tuscaloosa. The men’s 8,000-meter race begins at 10:30 a.m. EST, with the women’s 6,000-meter run set to begin 11:45 a.m. EST.
The UK men have won two of four meets this season: the Woodford Cross Country Trials and the Furman Invitational. The Cats are led by sophomores Thomas Morgan, Hunter Spencer, and Kevin O’Connor, and freshman Justin Amason.
The UK women won their first meet of the season at the Woodford Trials, and have run well in their remaining meets. They are led by freshmen Caitlin Phillips and Amy Guard, as well as sophomore Marie Patton, junior Jennifer Osterhage and senior Liz Attig.
The Cats are looking to improve on last season’s performance, when the men finished sixth and the women finished 12th.The Arkansas men and women are again favored this season. The Razorback men have won the last nine SEC Championships, while the women are vying for their third consecutive.
