Winston Salem, N.C. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team had another impressive day on the campus of Wake Forest University on Saturday, Nov. 4, as they advanced in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Regional Championship.

Brooke Skeen, Lauren Rookledge, Carolina Mayorga and Sarah Witten all marched into the round of 16 with wins in thesingles competition. Skeen, the tournament’s 8-seed, defeated Prim Siripipat of Duke in straight sets 6-3, 6-1. Rookledge, seeded15th, also notched another victory onto her record after besting Martha Montano of Tennessee-Martin 6-4, 6-2.

Mayorga, seeded 16th, also claimed a spot in the quarterfinals with her win over Meredith Moore of Furman,6-3, 6-4. Joining the three seeded Wildcats in the next round is Witten who upset the nation’s 98th-rankedplayer Vilmarie Castellvi of Tennessee in three sets, 4-6, 6-0, 6-4, to advance.

The duo of Skeen and Rookledge also came up big by advancing into the semifinals of the doublescompetition. The Wildcat tandem upset 5th-seeded Renata Brito and Laurence Jayet of Clemson 8-6 beforeknocking out Kendrick Bunn and Kate Pinchbeck of North Carolina 8-4 to move on in the tournament.

Four remaining Wildcats will participate in singles action tomorrow starting at 8 a.m. Skeen andRookledge will face second-seeded Alison Ojeda and Vilmarie Castellvi in the afternoon for a spot in the finalmatch.
