The University of Kentucky men’s swimming and diving team downed the Indiana Hoosiers 150-92, while the women’s team fell 149-94 in their dual meet Friday at IU’s Counsilman and Billingsley Center.
UK seniors Shaun Zitani and Macon White led the men’s team with two individual victories apiece on the day. Zitani posted season-best times in both the 50 and 100 freestyle, with White capturing first place in the 200 and 500 freestyle. Wildcat senior Dave Tweedie recorded a lifetime best of 9:17.89 in winning the 1000 freestyle.
Senior Melissa Olson paced the women’s team with season-best finishes in the 200 Individual Medley and 200 backstroke. Olson’s winning time of 10:12.58 in the 1000 freestyle represented a lifetime best for the UK swimmer. Senior Jamie Siegele took first place in the 50 freestyle and placed second in the 100 freestyle, while junior Carolyn Rader recorded a win in the 200 freestyle and a second-place finish in the 500 freestyle.
Olson and Rader later teamed with freshmen Shawna Sechrist and Amanda Bourgeois to take the women’s 400 freestyle relay.
Sophomore diver Clayton Moss won the 3-meter diving event with a score of 354.67. Moss also recorded a lifetime-best score of 344.55 in capturing second place in the one-meter.
On the women’s side, senior Carrie Knoeber recorded a second-place finish in the 3-meter event with a score of 272.47.
The UK women’s team returns to action Friday, Nov. 10, against Tennessee.
