The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team will conduct its first exhibition game on Tuesday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. in Memorial Coliseum against Tapiolan Honka from Helsinki, Finland.
The Finland players were selected from two teams, Honka and KaPo, in the Helsinka area. Honka came in second in the Finnish women’s championship and KaPo came in second in the Finnish Junior Championship. Currently the Finland team is 0-3 in its United State tour, falling to Purdue, Wright State and Butler.
The Cats are coming off their second-straight winning season and anticipate an exciting season in 2000-01 after signing nine new players. Last year’s leading scorer, junior forward LaTonya McDole, returns for her third season at Kentucky and UK Coach Bernadette Mattox sees this young team as one of her most talented in several years.
“I’m probably more excited this year about working with our team than any time in my five years,” Mattox said. “We areinexperienced, but we have so much talent and potential. These players want to win and they leave it all out on the floor.”
UK will also play an exhibition game on Friday, Nov. 10 versus Premier Sports at 7 p.m. Admission is free for both games.
