(Nov. 9, 2000) — The Kentucky women’s basketball team will play host to the Premier All-Stars on Friday, November 10 at 7 p.m. in its final exhibition game in Memorial Coliseum. Admission is free.
The Cats defeated Tapiolan Honka on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 101-44, in their first exhibition game, recording a 100-plus scoring game for the first time in 10 years (Dec. 7, 1990 against Bradley, 103-75).
Five Wildcats scored in double figures, led by freshman center SeSe Helm with 20 points and 12 rebounds. The Cats’ lone returning starter from last season, LaTonya McDole, charted 16 points and 13 rebounds while freshman point guard Daskieka Hawthorne and freshman forward Stephanie Stoglin added 11 and 14 points, respectively. Hawthorne also added a game-high eight assists while Stoglin grabbed an impressive nine boards. Freshman forward Alvine Mendeng and freshmen guard Kristin Connolly both scored eight points each and forward freshman reserve Shambrica Jones added six points.
Kentucky is 1-0 versus the Premier All-Stars after a 99-78 win last season. McDole led all scorers in 1999 with 21 points. The All-Stars, led by former Ohio State player and Kodak Honorable mention All-American Lisa Cline, come to Lexington after a 101-51 loss at Penn State on Wednesday.
UK will open regular season action on Tuesday, Nov. 21 versus Miami Ohio in Memorial Coliseum.
