Ian Naismith, the grandson of basketball inventor Dr. James Naismith, will display the “Original Rules” of basketball at the University of Kentucky Basketball Museum from Jan. 6-16. The two-page document, which is 109 years old, has only been displayed to the public on this tour.

The Naismith Millenium Sportsmanship Tour, sponsored by the UK Athletics Association and Host Communications, Inc.,focuses on sportsmanship, respect and positive role modeling in sports. It also gives a history of the man who invented the game wayback on Dec. 21, 1891, and provides details of the game of basketball by featuring photos and memorabilia only displayed on thistour. It’s considered to be one of the most respected sportsmanship movements in the world of sports.

In addition, Ian Naismith will present former UK athletics director C.M. Newton with the prestigious Naismith GoodSportsmanship Award at the Notre Dame game. The award has been presented to such notable persons and organizations asMichael Jordan, John Wooden, Red Auerbach, Oscar Robertson and the Harlem Globetrotters.

There’s no additional charge to view the display. Admission to the museum is $5 for adults, $3 for students.
