The University of Kentucky track and field teams begin action in their second meet of the indoor season as they play host to theRod McCravy Memorial on Jan. 12-13, at the Nutter Field House on the campus of the University of Kentucky.
This meet will give the Cats an opportunity to see how they have progressed over the past month since opening the indoor seasonwith the Wildcat Speed Meet back in December.
At that meet, UK freshman Jeff Chakouian had a grand debut. His winning throw in the shot put of 65-10.50 not only shattered aschool record but was also the top heave by a junior-aged athlete (19 years old or under) in the world in 2000. Most importantly, heautomatically qualified for the 2001 NCAA Indoor Championships.
On the first night of the McCravy, four events will be contested: the men’s high jump, pole vault, and 35-pound weight throw, alongwith the women’s 20-pound weight throw. The remainder of the field events and the running events will take place on Saturday.
Action gets underway on Friday with all three men’s events at 7 p.m.
