The University of Kentucky track and field squads will take separate paths this weekend asthey split up for a duo of meets. The field team and hurdlers will head to the Air ForceInvitational in Colorado Springs, Colo., while the track squad will compete at the ArkansasInvitational in Fayetteville. Both meets run from Friday, Jan. 26, through Saturday, Jan. 27.

In the field, freshman Jeff Chakouian will look to improve on his already phenomenalthrowing by attempting to top his national-leading shot put mark of 65-10.50. That mark hasautomatically qualified him for the NCAA Indoor Championships in April.

Also looking to improve already strong marks will be sophomore Simidele Adeagbo in the long andtriple jumps. Last week at an SEC Quad meet held in Lexington, Adeagbo earned a newpersonal-best in the long jump with a leap of 20-03.50 to provisionally qualify for the NCAA meet.A week earlier at the Rod McCravy Memorial, she leapt another personal-best and NCAAprovisional distance in the triple jump with a distance of 41-05.75.

On the track, the middle-distance Cats will try to reach NCAA times. Freshman CaityPhillips, the team’s leader in the 800 meters and the mile, has done well early in her career with a2:16.09 in the 800 and a 4:58.87 in the mile. For the men, freshman David Freeman leads theway in the 800 with a personal-best time of 1:51.25. Not far behind are freshman James Doatyand sophomore Chad Johnson. Brothers Thomas and Jack Morgan lead the way in the mile andtwo-mile runs.
