The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team was handed its first loss ofthe season in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Sunday, Jan. 28, when it was defeated 6-1 bythe North Carolina Tarheels.

The Wildcats’ lone point came on senior Brooke Skeen’s singles victoryover 25th-ranked Julie Rotondi in three sets. UK doubles squad,Carolina Mayorga and Sarah Witten also clinched a big win whenthey defeated the nation’s 25th-ranked duo of Kendrick Bunn andKate Pinchbeck.

North Carolina came out and played impressive today,Coach Mark Guilbeau said. I have to give them all the credit, theyreally rose to the challenge and played tough tennis today.

UK will take some time off before hitting the courts againwhen the Michigan Wolverines travel to Lexington on Friday, Feb.9, to battle the Cats in the Hilary J. Indoor Tennis Center at 4 p.m.
