The following statement was released Wednesday by former University of Kentucky coachHal Mumme:
Yesterday, February 6, 2001, I resigned my position as Head Football Coach of the University of Kentucky. I would like toemphasize that I had no knowledge nor did I participate or encourage NCAA rule violations during my tenure. However, thesethings did occur on my watch and as the person in charge I felt it best for the program at UK that I take responsibility and resign.
June and I would like to thank the administration, staff, faculty, students and fans at UK for four wonderful years. In spite ofthe turmoil of the last few weeks, we will always cherish our time in the Commonwealth. Every time I hear My Old KentuckyHome I will recall the great moments we shared at this fine university. My hopes, best wishes and prayers are with you all.
